IN THE BEGINNING
They met
while cranking homemade ice cream
he lived across the street
and invited her to share.
I imagine his eyes twinkling
and her laughing
and their hands touching while they
took turns.
I want to believe that
once upon a time
they were happy.

Sometimes all we have to hang on to is belief. Sometimes lucky enough to have memories. Sadly not all those memories are as happy as we would like them to be. I sadly don’t remember much of my childhood. Whether that is a coping mechanism that I have or whether I have just blocked out all the stuff too painful to remember.
So you hold on to everything you can memories beliefs anything that can help you through. You may never even be here at all in fact none of us if just one single moment had have turned out another way. We would not therefore have all the people and things in our lives that we have now and for them I am eternally grateful.
You can at least believe that.

Thanks, Anne. No, not all memories are happy ones but it is nice to be able to sort through them for myself.
well done
A beautiful idea to write about it. I was adopted at age 6 mos. and met my birth mother when I was 35 yrs. old. It wasn’t great. We haven’t spoken since. I will never know my birth father. She would not divulge.
I did, however, give excellent care to my adoptive father while he was dying from a brain tumour. I am proud of that.
One of my posts had many hits from an Aussie podcast. You may be interested in it.It is called Relinguished Babies.
