It is ridiculous to be so happy about this….about paying money for rocks….but I am.
One we bought all (most) of the plants for the front and the back yard and 8.5 yards of mulch and 3 tons of rock for the creek bed and 3 tons of bluestone for the path and the patio and all the other stuff we’ve been doing outside, well, there was still something missing. Rocks. Boulders. Varying sizes to put near the manzanitas and to ground the creek bed and more. We went to the rockyard to look but sheesh, rocks are sooooo expensive that I couldn’t bring myself to buy them. Yet.
I’ve been scouring craigslist regularly, hoping to get lucky and today I did.
34 rocks. 31 of them are 1-2 head size and 3 of them are huge. Total cost? $100.
Now to figure out where they all go.
They look so pretty with your plants and pavers!
Thanks. I realized when my husband came home with them that he’d just have to dump them somewhere. I hope I can get some pictures in my head to tell me where to place them. π
Rocks just add that finishing touch. We’re fortunate. We have lots of rocks on our land, some of them huge.
Yes, they’re like icing, aren’t they?
Lucky you!
wow, that looks great? Are you “hugging the rock?”
Okay, bad pun.
Where do you live? Around my neck of the woods you just go to the quarry and buy them by the ton. We paid like 30 for 3,000 pounds of rock (as much as would fit in the truck at a time) back when we were building rock walls.
hahaha I hadn’t even thought of HTR.
I’m in San Jose CA. You can go to the quarry but it is a lot more than $30. We figured we got about $1000 to $1500 worth of rocks.
that is so crazy! By the time we sold our last house, we had a rock wall that was five feet high and about 120′ long, and were were about $400 or so into it.
We had an entire dumptruck dropped off, like a semi-truck full, and it was like $240.
I guess in a more urban area, where rock is not as readily available, it would be one hot commodity!
A couple years ago I told my husband that I wanted a big rock for my birthday. He thought I meant jewelry. I meant . . . a big rock. Once the confusion was cleared up we went to the rock place and I picked out a nice 300 pounder.
Oh that is hilarious!!! My husband would have done the same thing. He thought this was all the rocks we would need but I told him we do really need a couple of even bigger ones. He is not yet convinced.
They’re beautiful! And they fit right in. Congrats on the big score π
Thanks.
My doves came back today! I’m so excited. They haven’t touched down in the yard since we tore everything up. They and the dog were both a little surprised by each other but she just romped slowly and gave them plenty of time to fly off.
Wow!!! Yea, and gorgeous!
Gorgeous. Very zen!
thanks. Though they aren’t all staying piled up like that. It’s just we had to dump them somewhere.
