You know, like that thing that Martha wore for house arrest?
What I wonder is if they would ever use one of those on a kid, you think?

I think they do. My brother used to be a juvenile prosecutor, and I think the ankle bracelet thing was a possibility. But I don’t know for sure. I could ask.
Thanks! I’m wondering how young they would go. I know when I did some work with an at-risk group of kids we had one boy that had one, but I also think he was 18.
Would they use it on a twelve-year-old, I wonder?
I found this blurb on a Pennsylvania site (http://www.lccpa.org/depts/juvenilepro/juvenileproprograms.html): “Electronic Monitoring. In lieu of continued detention for violations of probation or for a repeat offense which is of a minor nature, youth can be placed under this form of electronic surveillance for up to 60 days.”
And this one from Minnesota (http://www.co.otter-tail.mn.us/courtservices/js_electronic.php): “Electronic Surveillance Program. Otter Tail County Court Services utilizes electronic surveillance equipment for juveniles as an alternative to detention. Court Services Officers make recommendations to the District Court regarding the appropriateness of releasing a juvenile on electronic monitoring to his/her parent or guardian’s custody pending further hearing or disposition. When ordered by the Court, Otter Tail County Court Services facilitates the hookup and operation of the monitoring device. Juveniles and their families are responsible for the per diem fee assessed for cost of the program.”
Sorry about the long comment.
Thanks, Brandie! No worries on the long comment, especially when one asks for info.
Yes, they do`
Yes, teenagers wear them. I know one who did 🙁
Re: Yes, they do`
You’re back! Thanks, Kim.
Given society’s current overprotectiveness phase, it wouldn’t surprise me if all children were made to wear them one day, or failing that, if they were sold to parents who wanted to keep an eye on their kids.
I know. Sigh. It’s a sad commentary on society to have to believe that is very likely possible.
Yup. Pretty sure they do.
I remember a news story a few years ago where a kid wore one. She cut it off and put it on a cat or dog so she could leave. I don’t remember her crime. When she cut it off to put on the animal, they could tell.
I can SO see that scene! Hmm…might need to use something like that.
I read an article somewhere that talked about using something like them as security for the high school. Students would wear them so it would monitor who came into the school. And, they could be used to tell which classes were attended…
More good info and details. Thanks! Still high school though. Hmm…I need to dig around and see if I can use it on a middle school kid.
