After months of research I picked up my new cell phone today. A Samsung i760 Smart Phone. Isn’t it pretty?
It’s nice but the bluetooth headset I got is going back. I need to find one that fits my ear better. I am still getting acquainted with it but I can make calls and send text messages (which is the best way to stay in touch with my daughter) and I managed to synch my calendar and my contacts and my task list. Way cool! The little slide-out keyboard is sooooo much easier for text messaging or entering a task or contact. Best part (so far) is that my husband has the same phone so all those annoying things I can’t figure out, he will learn first and then show me!
Excellent–looks like fun! We’re finally going to enter the world of texting in another month or two when we all update our phones. Maybe I’ll check out this model. I agree. It would be good to have the same model as Randy, so that he could figure out all the tech stuff for me. How pathetic and sexist, I know, but I have to live in the real world, and that would be awfully efficient for me:>)
Here’s what I learned about pricing phones – this model isn’t sold by very many people so we ended up buying at Verizon. With Verizon at least we learned to go to a direct store rather than a small kiosk because they had room to bargain. I took in everything I saw online, price wise, and they matched it. It is not an inexpensive phone ($200 AFTER all the discounts – retail is $500 I think) and may be overkill for me. I don’t know that I will use the data stuff much unless I start traveling but I like that it is there and I like that I can afford to have that luxury. Also they bundled the accessories I needed and discounted them all, most 50%, which gives you an idea of the markup.
I didn’t get unlimited text messages as, with our carrier, they want another $20 a month for it. But they had (and don’t advertise) a thing for 250 text messages a month for only $5 which someone told me to ask for. (Daughter and I texted a lot last night and I got more info that way than trying to catch her on the phone.)
Typing on the keyboard with your thumbs is easy. It also has a touch screen and a stylus.
I love the way the screen moves from vertical to horizonal as soon as I slide out the keyboard.
The synching – that was bliss! I used to love that about my Palm; having it all in one place no matter where I was. This is the same way. And I can keep my folder of my current WIP on it for any of those times I want to tinker with it and I’m away from home.
Now the search for the mostly perfect headset.
Wow–thanks for the info!
