A friend asked me this question and I had no answer for her but I know someone out there does.
Do teen girls call another girl gorgeous (when she really is beautiful) or do they use another word?

my son says it depends on the dressing up situation……..
If a girl is going out with a guy, another girl might say, “you look hot.”
if she is going to the mall with her, she might say, , “you look nice.”
If the girl is more wholesome looking she might say, “you look pretty,”
And if the girl speaking is less than attractive herself and overcome with the other girl’s beauty?
I think in that case she might not say anything, but might think it.
Thanks. I’ll pass it on to my friend.
I’d think she’d just say “pretty.”
Thank you.
Hmm, it might be that British culture is different, but in general you get a funny look if you use gorgeous at all. It’s a word with ‘ghey’ (you know, over the top, flaboyant type of gay 😉 ) connotations over here. Unless we’re talking about say, a cake, or a wedding dress, or something.
Though I suppose if you’re older than the ghey culture you could probably get away with it (ie. my Grandma and Granny could use it, and my auntie and mother probably could too (maybe!) – my work colleagues most likely couldn’t.)
Oh, this is interesting. Thanks so much. I’ll pass it on to my friend.
I think it is possible and it depends on the character. I don’t think it is terribly outmoded, like calling her “foxy” or something. 🙂
hahaha…foxy. I haven’t heard that for a while. Thanks!
