The lovely and talented Cynthia Leitich Smith interviewed me for her blog Cynsations. I am honored that she gave Hugging the Rock a much-coveted “Highly Recommended” tag.
Thank you, Cynthia.

Thank you, Cynthia.
I’m flattered that you mentioned my blog, and frustrated that I can’t get HTR yet!!
It was hard to narrow down my blogs to a reasonable amount. Here’s hoping I didn’t hurt anyone’s feelings.
I know that frustration well. It’s hard to tell when to post this sort of stuff too…on one hand, you want to start to build a buzz before the book comes out but on the other hand, I don’t want people to forget about the book when it IS published. Sigh.
That’s what the pre-order button is for!
Quite right! You CAN pre-order the book now at least.
Whoops…that was me, of course.
Okay…fantasy time…tons and tons and TONS of people pre-order order OUR books and they sell out of the first printing before it is even published.
Did you see the review on Fuse#8?
I’m almost afraid to go read it.
It’s very good. Don’t be afraid. 🙂
Whew!
Still scary though.
Wonderful interview, Susan! Your struggle to write ‘Hugging the Rock’ was truly inspiring. Congratulations on the ‘highly recommended’ too! 😀
Thank you. I’m still sort of spinning in circles here. Oh my. If I feel like this now, what’s it going to be like in a few months when the book actually comes out?
hey! I thought you lived in California??? “Your Desk” points to Illinois!
How did that happen?
I just typed in the words. Was I supposed to do something to make it point back to me?
Love the icon pic! Just like a rock star.
Re: How did that happen?
I dunno….I never saw “my desk” as a link, so I thought you had something “there”–well, you did! but not intentional it seems!
Re: How did that happen?
LOL. And on my end, there was a box that said “location” and like a good girl, I filled it in.
Way to go!!!
Thank you!
Great interview, Susan! I’m very much looking forward to reading HUGGING THE ROCK.
Very nice review up on Fuse#8, too 🙂 You go, girl!
Thanks Cindy.
Oh the review…wow. I’m very flattered.
Did you feel raw and exposed when you started reading the reviews for RULES? I keep saying this is so different from a picture book and it is SO different.
I keep getting up and walking around because I can’t concentrate.
Did you feel raw and exposed when you started reading the reviews for RULES?
Absolutely.
Great interview! Now I really can’t wait to read Hugging the Rock!
Thank you. I can’t wait for you to read it either.
Wow, Susan! What a wonderful interview! Reading about your relationship with your father, I really feel as though I understand your inner soul so much more. I am sure your books are filled with this sensitivity and that makes them all wonderful.
Kudos girl!
I really appreciate all your kind words. The interview was hard, as interviews often are, because you know to do it right you have to give away pieces of yourself.
SUSAN ROCKS! SUSAN ROCKS!
Just don’t let me roll down the hill, okay?
Don’t worry–you’re a rockin’ and a rollin’ on smooth, but slip-free, level ground. 🙂
Can’t wait for HTR, but in the meantime, it’s great to read your buzz. Thanks for sharing!
It’s fun to be able to share it with people who get excited right along with me.
Yay! Great write-up! Congrats 😀
Super fantastic interview. Cynthia is really a great interviewer and I’m normally impressed. But this time… with you as the interviewee… it was tops!
Ah, thank you. Cynthia is super and she asks questions that make you really think. I was zapped by the time I was done but really pleased with the way it came out.
Wonderful interview! I picked up the first part of Hugging the Rock at ALA in San Antonio. Can’t wait to read the rest!
I need to compare as I think it has changed a tad since then…not a lot, but there have been a few changes.
Yea for you and Hugging the Rock!
Thank you!
