At 10pm last night I finished my last run through of the galley pages for Hugging the Rock. Today they are on their way back to my editor. The next time I see it, it will be a real book!
It was nice to know, as other LJers have mentioned of late, that I still love my characters, that I still feel their pain and their hope, and that I am very proud of the book. It was also nice to know that it feels done. Time to cut the apron strings and move on.
Wow! And yay!
I can’t wait until I have one of my own in my hands… *someday*
Come September!

Yay! Such a great feeling.
Isn’t it great? Are you still floating on your own cloud?
I sort of am! Each little stage is something to celebrate. There are also little stressors, too…hoping the right version of the acknowledgments made it to the final book, noticing that the excerpt in the catalog is not from the final version, and now, hoping to god I didn’t “accidentally internalize” something from another popular book! π
Each little stage is something to celebrate. We (my husband and I) celebrate every aspect of the process.

Oh yikes. I had a couple of those thoughts too. On the pass before that I had misspelled the name of someone in the acknowledgements – not goo. And this time I have had such fears about my line breaks and commas and the word AND that I changed things, changed them back, wrote my editor in a panic (who marvelously assured me that she would not let me ruin the book) and finally just said I was done.
and now, hoping to god I didn’t “accidentally internalize” something from another popular book!
As if we didn’t already have enough to worry about. I had a dream last night that someone said I “accidentally internalized” two entries into a contest. And my name was on them and my LJ picture was on them but they weren’t mine. They weren’t even in categories that I would ever write in or enter. I woke up feeling very out of control.
Congratulations! Do you like going through galleys? It’s not my favorite time…I always see way too many things I WANT to change, but know I can’t.
You know this time through I was really done. I think because the next character from the next book is starting to talk pretty loud and demand her fair share of attention. If I didn’t have something else to dive into I would be more inclined to want to play with old words.
But maybe not. The early responses on the book have been really nice and I’m darn afraid of screwing it up. π
I have never experienced that feeling of “being done.” Not even when I have other projects to be working on. I can’t even do a reading without revising as I’m reading. π
Glad to hear the early responses have been positive!
Congratulations! It must feel great to get to this stage with a book.
Thank you and oh yes it does. It feels great.
The next time I see it, it will be a real book!
THAT must be a very exciting feeling!
Pretty much the next best thing to seeing the real book.
Yea! Congrats! Also, good luck with your next book.
Thank you.
How wonderful!! Congratulations, I cannot WAIT to read it!
Congrats on feeling “complete.” π Have fun “moving on.” π
