I decided to make an art journal of all the poems I wrote for Laura’s 15 Words or Less poetry exercise she does every Thursday. I downloaded all the pictures for any of the photo prompts I wrote a poem for. They’re all printed out and waiting to go on the pages. Today I finally finished all the backgrounds in the journal. These are a few of my favorites. Now it’s time to start phase 2, collaging the photos and adding the poems.

What a lovely idea! I look forward to seeing a few finished samples.
Thanks. It’s a fun project when I hit writer’s block.
THOSE!
…are absolutely AWESOME backgrounds—so good, they could remain foregrounds.
Re: THOSE!
Thanks, Slatts. That means a lot coming from you. I really need to work on my color combos because I end up gessoing or painting over a lot of pages because I don’t yet “get” how the colors work together. Sometimes that works for building up layers and sometimes it doesn’t. Time to go watch another episode of my color class.
Just beautiful!
Thank you!
soooo gorgeous! And no blank pages there! 🙂 Already full of color and promise and hope!
thank you!
how cool is that?
Love your backgrounds! To answer your question on my blog about faux encaustic: I mix different gels with interference colors from Golden and one of my favorite colors Nickle Azo Gold (linked in the supply list).
A lot of methods and teachers will tell you to do thick layer and let those dry overnight. I’m too impatient for that. I spend more time on it, but I finish in one day by adding a LOT Of thinner layers.
I could do a workshop on this if you think you’d be interested.

Messin’ around in that gorgeous studio again . . . I love the sketchbook project. I might (might) join it myself. Thanks for telling me about it.
I’m having fun playing. Today I’ve been adding the photos I printed out and some decorative papers. The pages have reached the point where I hate them and think I’ve ruined them. I seem to get to that point just before I put the words on and do the pen work. 🙂
I’m excited about the Sketchbook project. I heard the books are pretty flimsy and held together with staples (it has to be expensive to mail out so many of them) but we can rebind them or do whatever we want as long as they are the same height and no more than 1″ wide.
What a great idea!
