a name.
Really.
I can ALMOST work without a title for the book but this no name thing for the plant kid is making me crazy. I had one name and I liked it a lot. But then I started trying to figure out how he got the name and it didn’t work with the story and now I’ve lost my connection to that name. Then I thought I had one that would work but it still doesn’t feel right.
I’m looking for a one syllable boy’s name, sorta soft sounding, not hard. Not too common. (Piece of cake, right?) Anyway, if you are one of those people who excels at names, I’m taking all suggestions.
Fred?
Sam?
Ned?
Joe?
Rumplestiltskin?
(Well, okay, that last one has too many syllables.)
LOL on the last one.
Thanks. Sam is soft. Hmmm/
maybe this will help………….

Argh. Why does this have to be so hard? 🙂
Tad, Ish, Dove, Gio, Mitt, Mel, Lir, Mo, Kai, Shane, Chayne, Sean, Leigh, Les
I love names. They tell a story in themselves.
Oh man, those are some good ones! I like Ish though it dosn’t work for him. Kai? Argh!
I started with got any that start with the letter “B”?
Thank you.
Hmm, Beau is the only one I can think of.
I love Ish, too. It’s the name of a friend of mine I knew in middle school as a kid, and then reconnected with when we ran into each other (literally) at college across the country. It’s short for Ishraq. 🙂
My real life boys are Ned and Will, nice soft one syllable names!
Nice! Thank you.
Max! (ducks and runs)
I like Sean, actually.
Jeff?
LOL. Never fear. Max’s story is getting attention. Which reminds me, Frankie’s sister needs a name now too. Gee thanks!
Leif 🙂
Ohhh – Lief for Plant Kid. Not too shabby!
Too too funny!
I started off with calling him Bloom.
Dave
Ant (short for Anthony)
El (short for Elliot/Elliott)
Tim
Mel
Sam
Oh I like Ant a lot. I may have to use that somewhere else. Thanks!
You are welcome!
My relative’s nickname. 🙂
My parents excelled in one syllable names for my brothers:
Don, Jay, Brad, Jeff
and….
oh, and the one syllable middle names used:
Keith
Clark
Re: and….
Thanks you! Do you ever have trouble using names when you know someone with the same name? Not a bad association but still hard for me to picture a character with the same name as a friend.
Re: and….
I do use names w/ people I know – sometimes it’s a coincidence, or the feeling I get from that person when I hear that name (I use the positive ones for the latter). Then they become separate beings to me b/c they have a new family, life in a new place, and have pretty much been reinvented.
If it’s a character who’s loaded w/ emotions or strife, I go w/ the name that feels right for that person.
Lee
Do you know what his mother was like? I was voting Sam as I read the previous comments, but I now say Lee. Lief made me think of it — but unless you know his mother was either Norwegian or had a teen crush on Lief Garret, I don’t think it fits…just one nosy fan’s opinion!
Re: Lee
Do you know what a loaded question you ask when you asked about his mom? Oh my goodness. There are all sorts of things that I haven’t explored there, yet, but have to.
Ash (short for Ashley). I actually know a guy w/this name.
Matt
Brett
Brent
Beau
Ben
Blaine (not a personal choice, but…)
Kip
Carl
Kai
Drake
Drew
I focused a bit on B’s since you asked for those above.
Thanks for the B list. 🙂
I bet Blaine would be a snot. Kip is nice. I like Ash too.
Seth!
Phil.
Soft, one syllable, and has connections to some plant words (philodendron, chlorophyll).
Ooh…good one! Thank you.
