Here’s today Poetry Push for List Poems. It’s a great way to warm-up your poetic muscles for the day. This is just a warm-up, so don’t spend a lot of time on it, five to ten minutes to create a list poem inspired by the Poetry Push card below.
What does this prompt make you think of? Brainstorm a list first. What’s puzzling to you right now? What are the pieces you need to complete something? Or maybe go off in a completely different way. This is just a warm-up, so don’t spend a lot of time on it, five to ten minutes to create a list poem inspired by the Poetry Push card above. For some examples from previous weeks, click on the poetry push tag at the bottom of this post.
Make sure to add your name to the poem when you post it.
EXPECTATIONS
The expectations I have for myself
I am sure are much too high.
Expectations of perfection
That I could not possibly live up to
I still do it though day after day
Building those expectations
Until I finally shatter
For no one can sustain such a pace.
My aim is that one day I can,
Lower my expectations
Maybe then I can find peace of mind
For a much simpler life
Without impossible expectations
I can still be the person I want to be
Minus the added pressure
That life already bestows on me
Replace expectations with love and peace
Creativity and enjoyment,
A recipe for fewer complications
In which there is no room for
Expectations

Expectations
We say in our crazy
twelve-step way
are
premeditated resentments.
If I live in the moment
and don’t expect
then I have
nothing to resent
not even me.
