I have a couple of galleys left of Hugging the Rock and I am trying to come up with a fun contest to give them away. Anyone have any brilliant ideas?

Yes, the Give A Galley to A Girl in Portland with One Son and Two Dogs Whose Name is Monique Contest!
hmmm…the most recent tattoo’ed person 🙂
No really – how about a haiku poem about your choice of topic?
Love it….I bet you are the only Monique who reads my journal, too.
You could have a contest on your website. People could submit their names, and you could have a drawing at the end of a month or so.
Thanks! I do have a contest via my newsletter (http://www.backup.susantaylorbrown.com/mailinglist.html) and I have saved aside a couple of galleys to finish that off in July and August.
how about…
How about a contest at YA Books Central or on one of the popular book blogs? Or a contest at Real Writing Teachers (of course it would be helpful if they taught middle graders), or a poetry contest on your site.
Would a local paper do a contest sponsored by an author?
I’m sure I have some better ideas…I’ll send them to you when they hit me!
Re: how about…
Thanks, Kim. Speaking of YA Books Central, I do have a book to donate for a contest there. Let me know if it should be sent to you or somewhere else, okay?
The Real Writing Teachers is a good idea too and I think they will be a good source for another contest when school starts back up again. I thought there were some MG teachers there?
My local paper would not. Not until I can find a way to link it to something big and local and I’m working on that.
Keep ’em coming.
I second the idea of pictures of people hugging rocks. You could maybe post the winners to your LJ 🙂
Yes, I think that’s a very good idea. Thanks for the second.
I’ve drawn a blank. Uhm. You could do an essay contest…say 100 words or less. Or…how about a contest to see who can make the most words out of the book title?
I do have an essay contest in the future. Still working out the details to see if I can get some local support.
Word Scrambles! I LOVE those. I’m going to have to add those to my bag of tricks. Thanks.
The strangest photograph. They have to be somewhere in the image.
oh….strange photos with them in it could be good (or bad) on so many levels. I like it. Thanks!
Re: The winner is
Love the idea of a photo contest. This bears further thinking though the idea of having you eat rocks has merit too.
On a completely different topic, my mom sent my my grandmother’s crystal the other day and it is this pink Fostoria and after I unpacked it and set it all out on the table I kept thinking, this is thatgirlygirl kind of stuff. (Not sure where it is going to fit into my NOT girlygirl place.)
I’m not an idea person in this way…not about rocks…because they seem to invade my house on the heels of my six children…and I have to sweep them up, or step on them and curse, or some other such thing…
But you’re getting some great ideas here.
